Walking the full 84 miles (135km) of Hadrian’s Wall Path is a delightful trip from coast to coast in England, taking in the remains of the Roman wall, built to keep the Scots out of England. In its day, the wall was a remarkable edifice and well-preserved sections of it still remain today along with several museums dedicated to taking you back to those heady days.
It is one of Britain’s most popular long-distance walks and one of the most pleasant to walk of all of the National Trails in the UK.
We walk through some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in England and enjoy regular viewings of forts, castles, turrets, museums and visitor centres all along the wall. It will be a journey of discovery in more ways than one.

Fri 8th Aug – Travel day
It’s time to enjoy our last breakfast together, and then say goodbye. You would have made friends for life on this journey.
If you travelled to Carlisle by car, then your vehicle will be just around the corner. If you came via train, then the train station is right next door. If you joined us on the mini-bus then our adventure is not quite over yet!
This is a challenging walk in more ways than one. It is just as much a mental challenge than it is a physical challenge. Physically, if you can walk 10 miles for two days on the trot, then you should be able to achieve Hadrian’s Wall without any issues. Adventure Geek will provide many opportunities for training hikes throughout the year, and you will also have time to meet your fellow hikers before the big day.
Here are a few things to think about before signing up:-
Do you enjoy history and amazing views?
How are you with hills? The middle three days are quite hilly.
We do not walk in one big group (as you will see in the videos, so please don’t feel that there is any pressure to walk fast, or slow).
We do have group meals in the evening and breakfast together in the morning, so the event is quite social throughout the trip.
Accommodation Information
Our accommodation is specifically chosen to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your stay. They all offer a warm welcome to walkers and traditional hospitality.
Travel Day – The Jury’s Inn (Quayside)
This is a 200-bed hotel which is situated just behind the Millenium Bridge and the perfect location to explore Newcastle on your travel day. There is a restaurant inside the hotel, however, we can explore the surrounding quayside area for a whole range of meal options.
Day 2 – Houghton North Farm (Heddon on the Wall)
You will be welcomed with open arms by Paula and Jeff.
We have sole occupancy of the farm, so please make yourself comfortable.
They have six rooms, which are all multiple-use occupancy. Room allocation will be added here a bit nearer the time.
Day 3 – The George, Chollerford
Northumberland hotels are known for their historic beauty, and the George Hotel is no exception – the picturesque stone-build building dates all the way back to the 18th century.
Out of all of the hotels in Hexham and Chollerford, The George is in one of the most wonderful positions on the pretty North Tyne River, near the walking route for Hadrian’s Wall and five minutes walk to Chester’s roman fort. The hotel’s leisure club is also open for guests. This includes a swimming pool and gym for visitors who would like to relax or fit in an early morning or late evening workout during their stay.
Day 4 & 5 – Twice Brewed Inn (we stay here for two nights)
Set just a stone’s throw away from Hadrian’s Wall, and surrounded by some of England’s most breathtaking scenery, The Twice Brewed Inn is a popular country pub and bed and breakfast in the heart of rural Northumberland.
Serving hearty, home-cooked meals and an impressive selection of our own home-brewed ales and spirits, the Twice Brewed is the perfect pitstop for weary walkers and families alike. Whether it’s getting cosy by the fire, or enjoying a pint in our large beer garden, there’s something for everyone; and with our own onsite Brew House and Dark Skies Observatory, there’s plenty more to keep you entertained.
Day 6 & 7 – The Station Hotel, Carlisle (we stay here for two nights)
The elegant Carlisle Station, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western (formerly a Hallmark Hotel) is superbly located in the city’s historic Court Square, just steps from the railway station next door. It may appear a little bit dated, but I guarantee that the service here is absolutely fabulous. We have stayed here for the last two years and know the staff well.
