Hostels or Albergues will give you the experience of the Camino where you can cook your own meal and share with other pilgrims on the route. These hostels have been chosen for their cleanliness, no large bunkrooms and have a friendly/welcoming feel. Julia has stayed in the hostels previously and gives them a thumbs up.
LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN…
DAY 1 – TRAVEL DAY
We will fly from London Gatwick to Bilbao departing 12:10 landing at 15:10 – British Airways.
From here, we will be collected by private transfer and taken to Pamplona where we will spend the evening in a fabulous 3-star hotel. We will explore Pamplona and have a taste of Spain before setting out on our Camino tomorrow.
DAY 2 – PAMPLONA TO PUENTE LA REINA / 15 MILES (24KM)
After our night in Pamplona, you will leave this beautiful and busy city behind you as the Camino takes pilgrims towards the ‘Alto del Perdón’ (Hill of Forgiveness) pass. We will collect stamps along the way in our Camino Passports and get our picture taken with the photogenic pilgrim sculpture at the ‘alto’ and enjoy fantastic 360 panoramic views of Pamplona and the valley. From there, we will begin our descent towards Puente la Reina (Queen’s Bridge) with its quaint medieval alleys and impressive 11th-century bridge over the River Arga.
Accommodation tonight will be your first hostel (twin rooms). This is a modern hostel with all the mod cons, but you will need to take your sleepsheet / lightweight sleeping bag with you. Today's walk will be quite hilly in places with some steep climbs and fabulous views, but there are lots of cafe stops along the way.
DAY 3 –PUENTE LA REINA TO ESTELLA 14 MILES (22KM)
We leave the gorgeous small town of Puente la Reina over a magnificent old stone bridge. The Camino de Santiago route continues along peaceful tracks for most of today to Estella. You will walk along rolling farmland, passing small towns and villages nestled among olive groves, cereal crops and vineyards. Cirauqui (Zirauki), perched on a hilltop, is a pretty little village of winding medieval streets where you will find one of the best-preserved stretches of Roman road. Estella-Lizarra is your finish point for today, a nice historic town with plenty to do and see.
We will be staying at the Hotel Yerri which is situated 100 yards from Estella Bullring, in the centre of Estella. It is the perfect location to explore the local cathedrals and delights of this fabulous Spanish City.
DAY 4- ESTELLA TO LOS ARCOS – 13 MILES / 22 KM
After our night in Estella, our Camino to Santiago continues to the town of Los Arcos. Just outside Estella, you will find Bodegas Irache, the Wine Museum and its famous free wine fountain, stop for a rest and sip of the local Rioja! Most of your walk today will be along nice tracks, among vineyards, a prayer stone garden (see photo), lots of olive trees and cereal fields. From Villamayor de Monjardín to Los Arcos, you will cover approximately 12kms without passing a single village so make sure you have plenty of water and a few snacks.
Our accommodation this evening is a lovely, unique hostel where you will be sharing a twin room.
DAY 5 – LOS ARCOS TO LOGRONO – 17.3 MILES / 28 KM
After our night in Los Arcos, we continue along the Camino on a very enjoyable track across rolling countryside, leaving Navarra and entering the world-famous winemaking La Rioja region. Today is a long walk but we will stop in Vianna for a long lunch break and soak up the atmosphere.
We finally pass the dramatic ruins of Clavijo Castle before entering the city of Logroño, capital of La Rioja and home to some of the best tapas scene on the Camino.
We will end the evening with a “last supper” in a fabulous tapas bar. (optional, but it is a lovely thing to do).
DAY 6 – Travel Day
We are collected by private transfer and taken to Bilbao airport.
Flights: 18:30hrs from Bilbao landing at Gatwick at 19:20hrs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What should I bring?
We will provide a full kit list once you have booked your Camino journey. What you bring will depend on whether you are using the luggage transfer or carrying your own kit. We have lists for both.
What will the weather be like?
It's rural Spain so it can vary. Be prepared for hot weather, but also be prepared for the rain and chilly evenings. We cover gear and weather safety in the Camino workshop before the trip.
How fit do I need to be?
If you are able to walk 12 miles in the English Countryside, then you will be fine to walk this section of the Camino. Adventure Geek will provide additional training hikes throughout the year which we urge you to join. Not only is it good to get as much training as possible, but you will also meet your fellow pilgrims.
How many stamps do I need in my passport each day?
You will need to collect two stamps a day. These can be obtained from churches, bars, hotels, restaurants and cafes.
Is there a weight restriction with the luggage transfer?
Yes, there is a maximum of one piece of luggage per person that weighs no more than 20kg (and they do check it!). You will need to fill in the details on the luggage tag provided and attach it to your bag at the start of your trip. Every day of your trip your luggage will be moved to your next hotel and we expect it to arrive before 4pm. You must make sure your Luggage is left at reception by 8.30am to avoid delays.
Can I book a private room rather than a twin?
Yes, but there will be a single person supplement and it will depend upon availability.
