DELAPRE WHALE WALK | APPROX 3.5 MILES | EASY | NORTHANTS
September 10, 2019 @ 9:45 am - 11:45 am BST

Delapre Park, Main Car Park. 122 London Rd, Northampton NN4 8AR (Note, please arrive by 9.45am for check-in we will set off at 10am)
ABOUT THE WALK – grade: moderate
Starting from the main car park we will head towards the lake. You may be wondering why we have called this the “whale walk” – when you look at the map, it is shaped like a whale, that is the only reason. As far as I am aware there are no whales in the lake…. but you never know!
This is a nice easy walk and the terrain is mainly paved. We will walk along the lake, up to the rafting centre and then make our way back to the main car park in a full loop, stopping for sweets along the way.
AFTER THE EVENT
We will visit Delapre Abbey and the fabulous cafe for a slice of homemade cake and a cup of hot coffee. (optional of course)
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
- Good trainers or walking shoes (and other clothes of course!), it may be muddy if the weather is bad.
- It's just over 3.5 miles, so please bring a bottle of water
- Money for a drink in the cafe afterwards (not essential, but everyone is welcome).

IF YOU WISH TO RETURN…
As a Grade 2 listed building, Delapre Abbey is within the top eight % of heritage properties in the UK and is one of just 46 sites listed by Historic England as a registered battlefield. Inside the Abbey, there are five different, interactive storytelling zones to discover which reveal the fascinating history of the building fro its life as a nunnery, witnessing the events of the Battle of Northampton unfold, to its heyday as a scandal-ridden Victorian country home.
