September 27, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm BST
WALK LEADERS: Julia & Rachel.
Delapre Park, Main Car Park. 122 London Rd, Northampton NN4 8AR(Note, please arrive by 6.20pm, we will set off at 6.30pm)
ABOUT THE WALK – grade: moderate
Starting from the main car park we will head towards the lake. In the summer months, you will see heron, swans and many other forms of wildlife. There is also a geocaching trail on this route! But this evening we will just enjoy the peace of the still water, good conversation whilst we amble around the lake and through the woods and park. Torches are essential for certain aspects of this walk, so please be prepared.
Furry friends are welcome on this walk.
AFTER THE EVENT
Meet at The Old White Hart for a quick drink and perhaps something to eat. It is just a few mins walk from Delapre.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
- Your Adventure Geek Loyalty Card (download a free pass from here)
- Good trainers or walking shoes (and other clothes of course!), it may be muddy if the weather is bad.
- Torch – please try to avoid a head torch as we tend to blind each other when chatting. I suggest a chest torch or a hand torch.
- High visibility vest – if you have a high vis vest then please bring it along.
- It's just over 3 miles, so please bring a bottle of water
- Money for a drink in the pub afterwards (not essential, but everyone is welcome).
IF YOU WISH TO RETURN DURING THE DAY…
As a Grade 2 listed building, Delapre Abbey is within the top eight % of heritage properties in the UK and is one of just 46 sites listed by Historic England as a registered battlefield. Inside the Abbey, there are five different, interactive storytelling zones to discover which reveal the fascinating history of the building fro its life as a nunnery, witnessing the events of the Battle of Northampton unfold, to its heyday as a scandal-ridden Victorian country home.
